Questions about lessons

How old do I have to be?

Students are teens from 13 and adults of every age. There is no upper limit.

Do I need my own guitar or bass?

No. Ask us whether a guitar or a bass is available to borrow for your lesson, or bring your own. Ask your teacher before you buy one, and see how tuition works for loans and other costs.

Acoustic, electric or bass: which should I start on?

Start with the sound you want to make. At your placement visit a teacher listens to what you like and helps you choose, and you can change later.

What is a placement visit?

A short visit with one of our teachers. You play or talk about what you want to play, a teacher listens, and we match you with a teacher and a weekly time. Nobody is graded.

How long is a lesson?

Lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes, once a week. Beginners usually start with 30. Your teacher suggests a length at your placement visit.

I am only here for the summer. Can I take lessons?

Yes. Take a daily lesson for a week, a few weeks, or a weekly lesson for the whole season. See the summer weeks and book the ones you want.

Do I have to play in a band lab?

No. Band labs are for students who want to play with others, and every student chooses. Teens and adults rehearse in separate labs.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

A lesson you cancel with a day's notice is made up within the term. Read how make-ups work on the tuition page.

How does tuition work?

Lesson length and format set it, and in summer, how many weeks you take. We give you the figures in writing at your placement visit. The tuition page explains the rest.

Can a parent sit in on a lesson?

A parent may sit in on a teen's first lesson, and on any lesson by arrangement. We ask a parent to wait in the lobby once the student is settled.

Still wondering?

Send us a message or call the front desk during lesson hours.
